Intuition or Impulse?!
How to tell if your “feeling” is an impulse or intuition?
According to some sources, both impulse and intuition are brain processes that occur without conscious rational thought. The main difference between the two is that an impulse is a reaction and usually an “emotional” reaction, while intuition is an instinctive understanding based on experience and cumulative knowledge.
Intuition is essentially the brain on autopilot, processing information without you being consciously aware of it. Impulse, on the other hand, is a drive, a desire, or an immediate longing. Impulses can be influenced by emotions, cravings, or external stimuli, while intuitions can be influenced by past experiences, patterns, or subconscious insights.
Remember, intuition is calm, and usually in contrast to the thing that you want. It is never rushed. Calm and balanced. While impulse, on the other hand, is agitated and urgent. It makes you want to push buttons.
Intuition and gut feeling versus impulsiveness. It is important to remove ourselves from that reactive state arising from our emotions. Emotions are good and necessary. They tell us about ourselves and usually what we may not easily realize.
Ask yourself, “What do I really, really THINK vs. what do I WANT?โ That can help you discover if your feeling is an impulse or intuition. Intuition is usually in contrast to what you want.
